This was held to be impossible for many years until Paul Steiff finally suceeded in giving the world-famous and universally loved Steiff Teddy Bears a voice of their own. The first ever Teddy Bear to have a growl - a tilt growler with a sonorous humming noise - was presented to trade visitors and Teddy Bear enthusiasts at the Leipzig Toy Fair in 1908.
