Introducing the loveable Golly character to you and the next generation of traditional toy lovers.

Florence Upton created the Golly back in 1895 for her childrens books. He was just one of a cast of toy characters but proved so popular, he became the main character in a series, "Golly and the Two Dutch Dolls". He was a colourful, kind, loving personality who had many appealing adventures with his doll friends.

Brigitte Rive and her husband Gareth create nostalgic soft collectable dolls. Brigitte Rive has worked alongside the internationally acclaimed Teddy Bear artist, Robin Rive for the past 12 years and this year has decided to create her own label. Brigittes "Collectable" gollies are designed and handmade in New Zealand

"Dear Friends, Our 6th collection has been the easiest so far to create due to the fact we have had so much inspiration and design ideas from our friends of Charlie Bears. As we always promise we have tried again to make this collection as varied as possible to suit all our collectors wishes and I hope like me there are a few that have captured your heart. With 60 new designs I know that I have made your choice very difficult but I am sure as you browse through the pages that you will understand why I find it tricky to leave anyone behind.

The best friends club also this year is even more exciting with four new bears exclusively available to club members I hope you enjoy my selections. William always cringes at this time of year as I sit in my chair and tick the pages of the bear brochures and create my bear wish list, I pass on copies to my family and friends and always leave one hanging around for William to find.n He always asks me "do you not think you have enough" and I always reply "there is always room for one more bear". Deb Canham

Deb Canham began her working life as a police officer in London, England. In 1986 , inspired by the many wonderful miniature bear artists in the USA, she became one of the first English based bear artists. She continued to make miniature bears at her kitchen table selling at bear and miniature shows. In the early 90's she became the main designer for the 'Little Gem' company and was also invited to design big bears for Teddy Hennann Original in Germany. However, she felt that the true value of miniature bears was being missed in the

regular bear market as she believes miniature bears are more 'figurines' than anything else and would appeal to the very many figurine collectors who collect animal figurines.

In 1996 she moved to Sarasota, Florida with her husband Richard, two young sons, Sam and Charlie, Dougal the Dalmatian and the family cat, Poppet. There she started,' Deb Canham Artist Designs' with the aim to produce a high quality collectible 'soft figurine' using only the finest fabrics. Like all collectibles her pieces are always a signed limited edition. Her designs have gone on to include many types of animal with dedicated lines of Mice, Dragons, Rabbits and bears. However, she also does a large number of birds, turtles, turkeys, penguins, and any other characters that may spring into her mind. It is very wrong to think of these pieces as 'Toys'. Firstly they are unsafe for children and secondly that is not their role. They are designed and made to be

enjoyed purely for their appeal and looks. All they are required to do is to make their owners smile.

Deb also has a 'Collectors Club' which is about to complete its seventh year in June 2006. The club was developed to keep her collectors bettei informed as to what was available, the value of sold out pieces and generally to build a link between the designer and the collector. Today s collectors want more out of

the collecting and Deb as a designer likes them to know more about why a design came into being, what was her inspiration and 'why'?

During the last two years. Deb has introduced the 'Inbetweenie' line, these are not miniatures and measure between 5- 9 inches. Prior to that she had a BIG-get- bear line but has decided to concentrate on the smaller 'pocket' size, 'The Inbetweenies' and her miniatures.

This year is sees the start of the I lth Year of Deb Canham Artist Designs and we are celebrating our l0th Anniversary.

A world of reality ....

Hansa manaufacturer what only be described as one of the most extensive ranges of animals from all round the world.

Dear Merrythought Enthusiast

We take the greatest of pleasure in introducing our 2008 range to you on this occasion as we consider that we have put together a range of "Handmade in England" products and collectables, which are second to none. The issue of numbers of this year’s collection may surprise some collectors. Quite simply in many instances we are using the number 78 (the number of years which Merrythought Limited has been manufacturing) and its derivatives. We are pleased to advise that all the goods described in this catalogue, save from those on the last four pages, are entirely handmade in our own factory in Ironbridge Shropshire England. We are also pleased to report that our local council has looked favourably now upon our recent application to use the recently "liberated" parts of our factory for alternate uses. We are intending to bring a great number of complimentary manufacturing and retailing skills "on board" within the next few months.

On Saturday 12th July 2008 we shall be holding our 12th Annual Open Day for our worldwide enthusiasts. Should you wish to attend then please be kind enough to email us on club@merrythought.co.uk and we will be delighted to let you have all the details of this popular event by email also. Dear Steiff Friends,

2007 is the year of a "million hugs". Exactly 100 years ago, Steiff set an unparalled record by producing 973,999 hand-made Teddy Bears in Southern Germany town of Giengen. Legend has it that even the local vicar had to lend a hand.

To celebrate this year in style, Steiff have designed a very special collection - a faithful replica of a much-hugged, much-loved Teddy Bear and his three little friends, all decked out in commemorative bows to mark the occasion.

But this quartet is just a small part of the new collection.
